9 Motorcycle Safety Tips to NEVER Forget

We are LOVING this nicer weather! It makes for a great ride. In this spirit of getting excited about taking your motorcycle out, the good people here at Lake Bikefest would like to point out 9 motorcycle safety tips to never forget. We also don't want you to forget that the biggest bike rally at the Lake of the Ozarks is happening this September 11-15 and we want everyone to be safe getting to it and during the festivities. Be sure to check the Lake Bikefest website at www.LakeBikefest.com and all of our social media channels listed at the end of this blog as we get closer to the event to stay up to date on everything happening.

9 Motorcycle Safety Tips to NEVER Forget

1. Dress the part.
Dressing appropriate for a ride means wearing non skid boots, gloves, and leather clothing to protect your body from awful injuries. You can also accent your wardrobe with brights colors so that other drivers can see you more clearly on the roads.

2. Stay out of driver blind spots.
It can be very difficult to see a motorcyclist on the roads, especially with heavy traffic. Just because you see them, doesn't mean they can see you.

3. ALWAYS wear your helmet.
Full face helmets are a MUST for motorcycle safety. Choose one that fits properly and get used to wearing it as you will need it every time you are on a bike.

4. Be cautious of bad weather.
Check the forecast before you choose to take your ride out. A rainstorm can be annoying ENOUGH to drive in a car, let alone on an exposed motorcycle.

5. Ride your bike defensively.
You should get in the habit of always riding with your headlights on, signaling in plenty of time before you make a turn and watch for traffic switching lanes.

6. Be sure your passenger knows what to do and NOT do.
Your passenger needs to be relaxed and hold on, no sudden movements or distractions. This should be discussed before you choose to take a ride.

7. Avoid drinking and riding.
As always, NEVER drink and ride. Drinking alcohol and driving a motorcycle can be one of the deadliest combinations out there and we cannot stress enough, don't do it. Always designate a sober driver.

8. Be alert for road hazards.
Always drive with your with your eyes a mile ahead, be on the alert for any road hazards and give yourself plenty of time to slow down or stop if needed.

9. Watch your speed.
Excessive speed and just one wrong move is another deadly combination. Follow the speed limits, they are there for a reason.
