Sponsor Highlight: Budweiser

Budweiser is another major sponsor of the Lake of the Ozarks Bikefest.  With their headquarters in St. Louis, Budweiser has been providing quality beer to our state and beyond for years.  When you think about Budweiser as a brand, you typically think of the Clydesdales or that awesome Super Bowl commercial you saw last season. But do you know the history of the Budweiser Brand and the Anheuser-Busch Company?

The Budweiser Legacy

Adolphus Busch was the son of a German brewing and winery supplies magnate.  He spent much of his childhood in the presence of skilled brewers and winemakers.  In 1857, he came to America to make his fortune and establish his future.  Little did he know, he would forever change the way we brew and enjoy beer.  By 1864, Adolphus started working for his father-in-law, Eberhard Anheuser. He became a partner of E. Anheuser & Co. soon after, forging the bond that would eventually establish the Anheuser-Busch Company.  Most Americans in the mid 1800s perferred robust, dark ales adn some lighter Bavarian style lagers.  In 1876, Adolphus discovered an opportunity for a better alternative; he began brewing Bohemian lager that was lighter than the Bavarian style and a stark contrast to the ales. Its name was Budweiser Larger Beer and it would become America's first national beer brand!

Budweiser's Brewing Process

Lager is traditionally brewed by allowing it to age in cool caves or cellars.  Today, Budweiser is lagered in cold lager tanks for three weeks.  It's an expensive but integral part of creating Budweiser's clean, refreshing taste. Beechwood, which is grown here in America, is harvested and processed into chips for use in Budweiser's fermenting process.  Beechwood aging enhances fermentation creating a crisper, more sparkling carbonation while imparting smoothness to the characteristic taste of Budweiser.  Once the beer's been bottled, the Beechwood chips are recycled into compost.  Samples of Budweiser product are flown to St. Louis each day for a 3 pm quality control test by the expert brew masters.  Only samples deemed perfect are cleared for bottling.  It's the final step in a series of five separate quality control checks.  It's also your assurance that the next Budweiser you taste is the finest made.  Since Adolphus Busch perfected the Budweiser recipe in 1876, technology has improved, but the process remains pure and the recipe has not been changed.

Budweiser is actually brewed in 12 different locations nationwide; it doesn't all come from St. Louis. This allows for you to get beer faster and, more importantly, fresher no matter where you are.  Also, every bottle is capped with a Flavor-Lock crown, designed to eliminate oxygen trapped inside while preserving the freshness and taste of your Budweiser.  Unlike other products that have a standard pull date, all of our bottles have a "Born On" date so you know exactly when your Budweiser was brewed.  So next time you go to grab a cold one, consider Budweiser!  Because without them, one of the largest biker rallies in Missouri wouldn't be possible.  Don't forget to mark your calendars for September 11-14 for the Lake of the Ozarks Bikefest!
