Rolling Thunder 2014 - Motorcycle Rally
This annual motorcycle rally is held in Washington, DC during Memorial Day Weekend to call for the government's recognition and protection of Prisoners of War (POWs) and those Missing in Action (MIAs). The tribute to war heroes started in 1988 with 2,500 participants and has grown to approximately 900,000 people involved with this annual demonstration. For those of you attending, here is the schedule and some tips. For those that can't make it and are celebrating Memorial Day here at the Lake of the Ozarks, we have some fun stuff for you as well!
Rolling Thunder Schedule
- Friday - Candlelight Vigil - 9 pm at the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, Washington, DC
- Saturday - Wreathlaying Ceremony - 11 am at the U.S. Navy Memorial
- Sunday - Rolling Thunder will assemble at the Pentagon Parking Lot at 7 am
- Departure to Washington, DC at Noon
- Speaker Program at 1:30 pm (stage is between the Reflecting Pool and the Korean War Memorial
- Musical Tribute at 3 pm
- Saluting Our Troops - After the Run - Henry Bacon Dr. and Constitution Ave. (just North of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial)
- Thunder Alley - open all day at 9 am Saturday, Sunday and Monday (22nd St. and Constitution Ave.
- Vendors, food, speakers and music.
- Monday - National Memorial Day Parade (Constitution Ave and 7th Street NW)
Tips for Attending the Rally
- The best place to view is along the Arlington Memorial Bridge and Constitution Avenue.
- Streets will be closed along the route from 10:30 am to 4 pm. Parking is limited and therefore, public transportation is recommmended. Nearby stations include Smithsonian, Metro Center, Judiciaary Square, Federal Triangle and L'Enfant Plaza.
- Bring food and water or expect to wait awhile in line.
- Dress appropriately and wear comfortable shoes.
- Take some time to pay tribute to America's war heroes by visiting the monuments and memorials on the National Mall.
- Bring your patriotic spirit and enjoy the day!

Lake of the Ozarks Events
- Live Music - all weekend, at all the local bars
- Fireworks - Saturday at Bear Bottom Resort, Sunday at Tan-Tar-A and Lodge of Four Seasons
- Bar Hop Cruise - Friday, Saturday and Sunday at 1 pm leaving from H. Toad's at Camden on the Lake
- OYC Parade of Lights - Assemble at OYC in Jennings Branch Cove, 1 MM. Depature is at 8:30 pm
- Cars and Coffee - Saturday on the Bagnell Dam Strip from 8 am to 10 am
